Lois’s Tallit
Lois had the idea to take her late mother’s beautiful suit that her mother had worn to Lois’s wedding, and to use the fabric to create a tallit for herself – for her daughter’s Bat Mitzvah. She knew that she would never wear it as a suit. The skirt was a pale pink chiffon over a pink taffeta. The jacket was a gorgeous brocade fabric. Luckily there was enough fabric in the skirt to make most of the body of the tallit though I did have to purchase a little more that miraculously matched. I sewed the chiffon onto a piece of pale pink silk dupioni. The brocade fabric of the jacket made beautiful corners, the atarah, and a stripe which hid the seams.
