Maya’s tallit with Indian silk

Maya wanted a tallit for her Bat Mitzvah that honored her Indian heritage from her father’s side of the family. She also wanted a traditional Jewish tallit. The solution? We ordered a few saris from India in her favorite colors, and she chose a beautiful purple/pink with small white and blue flowers. We used it as a middle stripe, and accented the colors in the sari fabric with stripes of dupioni silk. The sari also had metallic gold accents, which we incorporated.  For her corners Maya wanted her name, the date on the Hebrew calendar, a rose for her middle name, and a chanukah menorah with 5 candles lit, as that’s when she was born.

It’s stunning!
