Matthew’s Tallit

#imagebox#

Matthew didn’t like his Torah portion, as it instructed the people to stone those who worshipped the stars and the moon.  So, he requested stars and a moon on his tallit, and wanted to express tolerance for other cultures, which we did by adding Asian fabric. Matt also requested a pine forest by a lake, and a hawk with a fish! I made the water by piecing together several watery fabrics, and printed out the hawks on silk from online.  The tree was made from a hand dyed ribbon that I snipped for leaves, and his moon was beaded. His tallit was lined with a cotton Asian fabric, except for the endson which I added a piece of contrasting dupioni, so he could have a 2 colored fringe. The first photo is of Matt, at 20, still loving his tallit.
