Missy’s Dolphin tallit

#imagebox#

This tallit was made from a gorgeous dupioni silk (that matched the color of Missy’s eyes), cotton batiks and beads. Missy told me that she liked dolphins, books and trees, and I took it from there. Her scene is a combination of applique, embroidery and even a bit of beading for the shells.  Though Missy lives in Santa Barbara, which resembles the scene, I think of her as sitting at the Red Sea. There’s a midrash about how the dolphins helped us cross the Red Sea during our Exodus from Egypt, which I included with her tallit.
